If I don’t write a will what will happen with my estate?

If you die without a will your home, savings and other assets, aka your 'estate', will be divided and given away on fixed rules set by the UK Gov. If you have a spouse or civil partner they will only receive a certain amount of your estate (currently the first £250,000, plus half of everything above that amount). The rest will be shared between your children or grandchildren. To find out how an estate is split when there is no will, use this handy tool
