Can I get a mortgage when I am on maternity leave?

It depends. If you are intending to go back to work and your employer confirms your return to work date and salary then this income can be used in the affordability accessment for a mortgage. If you do not intend to return to work then your previous salary before you went on maternity will not be taken into account for a mortgage. If you are on a zero hours contract then the lender will take an average over the last 12-months so your maternity pay may be factored into this average.
