How to start a personal budget that works for me?

This can be done in 4 simple steps:

1. Write down all your necessary monthly expenses, think: rent/mortage, home bills, commute to work, nursery school fees ... And, add these up.

2. Subtract the total expenses from your monthly take-home salary.

3. Now subtract your monthly saving goal.

4. Divide the remaining amount by 31. This is your daily ‘do as you please’ personal budget.

For example, say you earn £2,500 a month after tax, your 'cant-live-without' expenses come to £1,500 and your monthly saving goal is £300. Take £2,500 subtract £1,500 and subtract £300, you get £700. Dividing £700 by 31 gives you £23 a day to spend however you want!
